SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
Approach To Leadership /
Stewardship
D.T. Hubbell Design's goal is
to get homeowners and builders to
implement green building
practices. We are encouraging the
LEED for Homes program as well as
other land conservation measures
for the community. For example,
we promote the recycling of
removed trees, the
protection/re-placement of large
hardwoods; the implementation of
better storm water management
practices. We specify as many
materials as possible
manufactured from within a 400
mile radius.
D.T. Hubbell Design has
researched and taken classes
educating ourselves on how to
lead the implementation of energy
saving & green building
practices, such as EarthCraft
Homes and LEED for Homes. We have
worked with developers to write
Energy Efficiency &
Sustainability Features into
Architectural Covenants to
promote their use.
Approach To Design
DTHD approaches each home
design differently, while also
remaining conscious of the
cohesiveness of the community. We
use sustainable design practices
and study the site: its natural
landscape, existing trees,
prevailing winds, solar exposure
and built context and respond
with the architectural solution
suited for the project (for
example, shade porches on the
west side, shutters where
appropriate, etc.) We try to be
sensible to light, energy and
water usage through proper
building orientation. Thereby, we
naturally reduce the strain on
the environment's resources. This
results in the best use of the
site in terms of formal and
functional space, while also
utilizing and protecting the
natural environment.
