OVERVIEW:
This mountain escape is nestled
along a gushing waterfall on
Mills Creek at Lake
Toxaway, North Carolina. The
approach winds its way along the
creek bed through tall white
pines and across a natural spring
pool. Living and entertainment
spaces are generously organized
along the creek side. D.T.
Hubbell Design incorporated
mountain fieldstone, wavy lap
board siding, harvested from
trees on the site, and board and
batten siding to reflect the
natural materials of the
mountains. Timber posts and
brackets support the outdoor
living spaces. Mountain laurel
branches frame the porch
balusters and gable end details.
An abundance of natural day
lighting is filtered through shed
dormers. The double-height great
room is flanked with full height
glass windows to capture the
movement of the waterfall along
the creek. |
