The owners of this Federalist-style brick residence in Sandy Springs wanted to update their home with more a contemporary, yet contextual feel. Our challenge was to create spaces that complemented the home’s traditional architecture while accommodating year-round use.
Our response was a variety of new indoor and outdoor living spaces that offered corresponding degrees of openness. We added a formal covered front porch that is contextual to the home’s existing facade. The new breakfast nook and professional kitchen feature a vaulted ceiling with exposed beam, and large overhead picture windows, which allow plentiful natural daylight, provide visual and spatial continuity. We configured a spacious screened rear porch with skylights and open gable to connect the living area to the outdoor amenities. Finally, we designed a custom cabana for enjoying the backyard with new pool and spa.
