Our clients requested an outdoor, rustic sanctuary on their heavily wooded, suburban lot. We designed this unique, private nature pavilion amid wildlife-filled woodlands along the Chattahoochee’s Ball Mill Creek. To create seclusion, we sited the structure in its natural setting with minimal disturbance, integrating the structure with the sloped, wooded topography. The vaulted roof of this calming retreat provides a sense of shelter and connection with the surrounding tree canopy. Natural materials like stone, copper, and wood create a sense of timelessness.

Sustainable design details include a minimally invasive, piered structure allowing for natural water drainage. Roof water is captured and released from two gravel flow wells. We carefully positioned the pavilion to preserve three mature hardwoods. Timber posts iterate tree trunks for support while arched, truncated wood beams evoke tree limbs for shelter. We also harvested natural daylight using a simple, dual-sided clerestory taking advantage of optimal year-round light.
