Ferncliff Road Residence

Located in the Pine Hills neighborhood of Buckhead, this new home demonstrates our clients’ desire for a distinctive home with clean lines that incorporates their personal desires and modern sensibilities. They also wished to take advantage of the lot’s existing natural landscaping, lush yard and prominent 50” landmark tree.

Our goal then was to provide a Modern home with a flowing plan, and indoor-outdoor relationships that maintained existing yards, landscape features, and minimized grading. We achieved this by re-using the existing footprint and enhancing outdoor living. Existing slightly-elevated grade provided for opportunistic views. By employing large rear glass doors from the living space and creating a generous, covered front veranda, the project was able to extend the outdoors and take advantage of its natural features.

Constrained with an existing footprint, we implemented a very efficient plan of open living spaces. A double-sided, modern marble fireplace demarks the Great room, which connects to the rear terrace and landscape— from the Living room with its views of the front yard features. An open contemporary kitchen with large island seating also provides ample views to rear gardens. The large covered veranda with blue flagstone quickly became a family-favorite gathering place. Simple architectural massing is articulated with hierarchical gables that offer a model of scale to the neighborhood. White brick and dark contrasting window frames contemplate modern,19th century industrial simplicity. Finally, triple-stacked window units punctuate the stair tower with an abundance of natural light while extending an eye-catching architectural feature.

All living spaces afford generous glazing that delivers natural daylight and endless views, connecting the outdoors while creating enduring value.
